Victoria Saunders. Blogger Spotlight Series.
we had the awesome opportunity to have a little chat with our friend Victoria.
you might know her blog, the pretty natural.
go check it out if you enjoyed this post.
Hey there! Tell us a bit about yourself, what’s your name? Where are you from? What’s your favourite animal?
My name is Victoria and I live right in the middle of the south coast. Close enough to the sea and far away enough from the city!
How and why did you start blogging?
I started blogging back when I was 17 under the name Starbucks and Vogue which makes me cringe to this day. Back then I was a ‘fashion’ blogger, although I was never really into fashion and took some of the most embarrassing outfit photo’s you’ve ever seen! If you remember LookBook days you know exactly the kind i’m talking about.
A year or so later I realised that I was a terrible fashion blogger I moved onto lifestyle and beauty. This was the style of blogging I fell in love with reading and wanted to emulate myself. I’ve always loved photography and writing so blogging became a creative outlet for me. After a few years of starting and giving up several blogs (commitment was never my strong suit) I started The Pretty Natural and never looked back.
What do you want to be when you grow up? :P
Growing up I was torn between becoming an astronaut or a Disney princess. I’m hoping one of these will eventually work out.
What was your first ethical purchase, and why?
Ocean salt from Lush! I remember it being stupidly expensive at the time because I bought it in Chicago, but its still a favourite to this day!
Why did you make the switch to animal-friendly products?
I had watched a video on animal cruelty, specifically cosmetic testing, and it shocked me. I couldn’t justify contributing to an industry where animals where being unnecessarily treated in such a horrible way.
How do you think we can increase awareness of animal-cruelty in the beauty world?
By supporting all of the wonderful companies who are making an conscious effort to make a difference in the world. If the demand for cruelty free products increases other companies will soon follow suit.
How can brands and people work together to end animal products being used in makeup?
Knowledge is power, and I think it's important to educate consumers on what really is going on behind closed doors. Slowly but surely raising awareness on animal cruelty is making a difference - we just have to keep spreading the message.
Do you have any tips on how to find animal-friendly products?
Logical Harmony and Cruelty Free Kitten are some of the best resources for finding cruelty free products. I always look to them to make sure i’m buying cruelty free.
What are some of your favourite brands and products?
Charlotte Tilbury is my all time favourite makeup brand and she has a tonne of vegan products! I also love Chantecaille, Odacite and RMS beauty.
Know any good places to eat?
If you’re ever down south you have to try Eat At Earth, Off Beet and Cafe Thrive!
we thoroughly suggest you go and follow her gorgeous instagram @theprettynatural.
